Food as art.

My dad is a great cook. I grew up with a gourmet chef dad. We had a great big garden in our back yard and our summer revolved around it. I remember running back in my bare feet, dodging the burr's in the grass, to get some green beans for dinner. I bring this all up because it wasn't odd to find my dad camped at a patio table carving some sculpture out of a vegetable or fruit. Apple swans, cucumber whales, and mostly flowers. Flowers of all sorts, that embellished the dinners he would make his girls. So when my Dad recently moved here, I was pleasantly surprised by this little tomato rose on my fruit salad. The whole thing was 2 inches high and he wrapped tomato peel around and around to make the bud and put it all on top of the tomato stem... So sweet I had to photograph it before eating. Yum. -A

Seems artists run in your family. What a beautiful way to love your family.
