Faux-Batik

Here is a project that can be done with kids in the style of African Batik. It is so easy to do!.

Step1. Draw a picture with pencil on any cotton fabric
Step2. Go over the lines they drew with Elmer Blue Gel Blue, let dry.
Step3. Paint over the design with Watered down acrylic paint, let dry.
Step4. Soak fabric in warm water for 15 minutes and then scrub the glue out!
Voila you have a design that mimics authentic batik and is durable. They key to making it beautiful is to use dark saturated colors and to have at least one neutral color ( I used the blue gray for this)

Check out my fine art website- https://anneviggianofineart.wordpress.com/ and send me a message-   I can give you other auction project ideas!

Spring project number five: Apply mulch

If you haven't already applied mulch to your garden beds, you need to get on it now. 2-4" in depth should cover your gardens adequately and provide them with the nutrition, moisture retention, and weed suppression they need to make it through the summer drought. My neighbors and I buy it in bulk and save money. We have tried products from  Cedar Grove and Dejongs with great results.  Get to work.--Rebecca

It's spring, look your best.

Yesterday, my bff, Carol and I went for a walk in the neighborhood. We stopped to look at a beautiful garden entryway, when suddenly a dapper looking gentleman emerged from behind the gate. He was on his way to do errands, but Carol and I had to stop him and tell him how fantastic he looked and to ask if we could take his picture. I think we made his day. He was so well put together and we so enjoyed seeing a well-dressed man on the streets of Seattle.

How is this related to spring projects, you ask? Simple. Clean-out your closet and get your spring wardrobe together. Don't be surprised if people stop you on the street and want to take your picture.--Rebecca

Spring project number one: Lucy's front door vase

This is my friend Lucy and her mom Kathryn. Lucy just loves the vase that her mom made for the front door. It's an easy project. Just wrap a bunch of wire around a small jar, whack a nail in your front door, add water and flowers, and voila' a lovely spring vase. What a simple and beautiful spring project.--Rebecca
