COUCH (On Western)

Anne here, thanks to Jenn N for the hot tip. I am not sure how I have missed this resource. Some of you may know my obsession with couches is not really healthy. I have bought and sold so many that I could own this store if I knew how the hell to make a flippin couch. This guy's blog-site is so refreshing! Here's a qoute:
"We get our sofas from LA– even though buying from China would be cheaper"

Ameer is the "couchguy" and he will custom make you any couch , chair, chaise etc that you can find a picture of. The price, apparently, will be far better than Restoration Hardware or Pottery Barn, for the same thing.

Couch (on Western)  is the first entry in Anne's resource list that I will be sharing on the blog from now on. You can find them all by clicking on the tag "Resources" in our list to the right of the blog posts.  People often ask me for referrals for furniture shopping & tradespeople, so now I will share the wealth and keep our local business people working! This week will be all about the places I go to help my clients get their houses all spiffed up. It seems that everyone I know is nesting right now! Maybe you are too?

I want this couch.

I don't need this couch I just want it.  Two weeks ago I went to the Design within Reach store and visited "my" 73" Bantam Sofa for an hour. Here's the company description:

"A soft, less machined brand of modernism first arose in the United States in the 1930s and it was aimed at simplifying life by comfortably modernizing it. Our Bantam Collection, which builds in comfort across the entire surface of each piece, takes its inspiration from this period while taking advantage of more recent technical advances. Influenced by the furnishings of Edward J. Wormley, the Bantam Sofa delivers supreme physical comfort as well as aesthetic pleasure. Made in U.S.A."

Why am I dreaming, yes dreaming about a sofa?  Is it the seductive description that appeals to me?  Is it because I have a mild obsession with all things mid-century? Do I want to be Laura Petry?  I do want supreme physical comfort and aesthetic pleasure for sure.  I'll let you know what I decide to do.--Rebecca

Olympic Style

You all might think that just cause Rebecca and I have our heads down all the time looking for beauty in our hood, that we never look up to see if beauty exists in the BIG world out there. Well, this week I am proud to show you just how far up I have looked to find it, Vancouver!!!
As I was sitting here enjoying me some young man mogul skiing cuteness, my obsession with interiors reared its head. DID YOU SEE THIS FLIPPIN COOL SNOW BANK COUCH?????? I mean there it was, right on the finish line.  A well done design. It looked so perfect right there, so comfy for those poor nerve wracked young skiiers.  Look at them,  it looks like they are watching the football game on a sunday at home, wishing their hands were down their pants .... if they didn't have on so many layers. sigh.
Okay seriously, the Olympics are fun,  I am totally hooked... The guy in the middle is the mystery man... you know the one Dale Begg-Smith... the "controversial millionaire " who is from Vancouver but calls Australia his home country.  The one on the left is the Canadian who won gold and has a brother with cerebral palsy and the guy on the right is the USA bronze medalist....
I bet you didn't know you would get Olympic coverage on our blog... we like to surprise you.

Joann's Couch. Maple Leaf

Joann's house is fantastic. It is filled with great art, mid-century
furniture, and so much more. This lady has got "it". Her
son inherited her skill. He completely redesigned this couch,
which Joann describes as a former old lady sofa, and
reupholstered it. Really Well Done.
